Carb overhaul

You are here: Service / Fuel & engine control / Carb overhaul

After 30 years even the most reliable Japanese engineering needs an overhaul. A not well working carburetor can cause a few issues like a bad start up when the vehicle is cold, break down at the traffic lights, shaking while driving or bad exhaust values and high fuel consumption.

For an overhaul there are more parts to consider not only the carburetor itself. Especially the last Micras (from ’89 till ’92) own a lot of secondary subassemblies because of the oxygen sensor emission control which have a huge impact of the mixture control. If they are broken, they of cause have a bad impact to the whole system. The components are:
- Carburetor and intake manifold
- Air filter box (completely)
- Carbon filter
- Pressure sensor ("Boostsensor")
- Valve cover (not shown)

After checking all the parts (mechanical, pneumatic and electrical) the intake manifold will be cleaned chemical and reassembled. The exhaust gas recirculation is lead through the intake manifold and therefore this needs to be cleaned in a special bath. If there are broken parts at the intake manifold, they will be replaced.

The carburetor and throttle valve are a bit more complex than the intake manifold and the air filter box. They will be disassembled completely into component parts and chemically cleaned. Heavy damages at the carb are unusual although there are often worn-out shafts and throttle valves.

An overhauled carburetor with the intake manifold (worn out parts in front) and the old assembly in direct comparison.

After the work is done the whole system (carburetor with intake manifold, carbon filter, all the sensors and the air filter box) will be tested for a whole week in my car to make sure everything works perfect in all situations.

When all the tests and ground settings are adjusted okay, the carburetor and all the corresponding parts will be sent back.
